What size will the spine of my book be?

Spine width
frame

To make life a little easier for all you publishers and authors out there, we’ve put together this table so you know what the width of the spine of your book will be when it comes to creating the artwork for the cover. Based on printing onto our standard 90gsm bond, you should prepare your cover artwork to include the following spine width:

Up to 90 pages (45 sheets) = 7mm

91 – 110pp = 8mm

111 – 130pp = 9mm

131 – 150pp = 10mm

151 – 170pp = 11mm

171 – 190pp = 12mm

191 – 210pp = 13mm

211 – 230pp = 14mm

231 – 250pp = 15mm

251 – 270pp = 16mm

271 – 290pp = 17mm

291 – 310pp = 18mm

311 – 330pp = 19mm

331 – 350pp = 20mm

351 – 370pp = 21mm

371 – 390pp = 22mm

391 – 410pp = 23mm

411 – 430pp = 24mm

431 – 450pp = 25mm

451 – 470pp = 26mm

471 – 490pp = 27mm

491 – 510pp = 28mm

511 – 530pp = 29mm

531 – 550pp = 30mm (and writer’s cramp!)

Remember that these measurements are based on printing onto our standard 90gsm bond so if you want a lighter/thinner or heavier/thicker paper these measurements won’t be quite accurate so please contact us to ask for advice.

What you also shouldn’t forget when preparing your cover artwork is to allow for bleed by adding and extra 3mm all around the outside edge. Not sure what bleed is? Click here to find out.
